Is it cold?
Yes, it’s freezing! But Lieut. Dangle still wears shorts.
Do I need to wear a helmet?
Yes, keep your noggin covered while on your bike.
Do these tires make me look fat?
Can I e-bike?
No. These are designated non-motorized trails, and we will lose our permits if we allow e-bikes.
How do I get the ceremonial Fat Bike Worlds flask?
All finishers of the 5-lap race will be presented a flask at the finish line! Sorry, but the flask will be presented empty.
Can I get handouts on course?
Yes! After the race begins, you can have your crew hang out near race headquarters so you can collect a feed each lap.
Can I bring friends?
Heck yes! Beers, buddies, bands, bikes… bring it all! Non-racers can enjoy Ska beer with a donation to CBMBA.
Is there prize money?
Not this year… this is run by a grassroots trails non-profit and helps fund CBMBA’s winter trail ops.
Is there a team race?
No, the championship race is individual this year! Choose from the 5 or 3-lap option. There are teams of two for Friday’s night’s bike polo tournament, however!
What if it snows?
So be it… it’s winter at 8888′ and sometimes, it snows! We are on no matter what (unless it dumps 2′ and a fat bike can’t physically move through the snow. Then, we just gotta stack it up to Mama Nature and drink beer).
What are the track conditions?
Awesome! The course is groomed specifically for our race to ensure that it is as firm as possible. We work with the CB Nordic Center to ensure the track is as firm as possible with the conditions we are given!
Can I pre-ride the course?
Of course! The course is open for pre-riding on Friday, Jan. 24th. Please print the map so that you don’t accidentally ride on cross-country ski trails that are closed to bikes.
What are the guidelines for tire size and air pressure?
Listen closely, Young Padawan:
The minimum tire width is 3.8″.
The maximum tire pressure is 8psi.
These will be checked at the starting line, as going below these specs destroys the track for others as the race progresses.
I've never fat biked before, but I ride bikes. Should I still register?
YES! This race is for ANY and ALL!
Do you actually brand the winners?
Upon request, we brand buns!
Is there wildlife on course?
