Winter Trail Report

Here is a list of all the trails you can fat bike on in the Gunnison Valley! You may also walk, ski, or snowshoe on most of these trails. Do check the signage or land manager’s policies if you have any questions.

Click on the drainage/location to learn more about the trails there, and click on the trail’s name to learn more about that specific trail. Please help us by submitting an observation if you see something we should report!

4/1 – Machines are on the road today doing some work to clear the debris and get the road back. Proceed with caution. Please check CBAC avalanche conditions before you venture out there and proceed with caution.

4/8 – If you go crust ride here, go early and stay on the trail. Follow the bamboo line. Once we pull the ‘boo, no more riding on this private land. The CBG Trails Winter Layer can help.

4/10 – We pulled the bamboo. Please don’t ride here until we’re riding on dirt. Point your wheels to public lands! The CBG Trails Winter Layer can help.

User compacted out there. Remember it’s a multi-use corridor so review the Trail Etiquette before you head out there.

If you’re going crust riding, be sure to know your property boundaries to avoid trespassing! The CBG Trails Winter Layer can help.

CLOSED for Season

4/8 – All done. Please don’t ride here until you see the dirt. The Riverbend Connector between Town Ranch and Riverbend road is private property. Respect their easement so we don’t endanger everyone’s access.

3/28 – From your observations! Thank you, Robbie! Kebler was good all the way to the Lily Lake trailhead near Ohio Pass, but Sno Trackers did not groom recently so it is impassable and Splain’s is also covered by 4 or so inches of snow. The road up to Irwin was good but I did not go far. Coming back at 3:30 conditions were still fair to good until the last mile. As always , the better surface is to the left on the way up.

Helpful hint – ride before noon to avoid the wind that always blows down from Kebler Pass. Fun ride back down with the wind at my back.

Be sure to check with the CBAC about avalanche conditions! Proceed with caution. Be safe out there!

4/11 – Ahhhh Spring in the Rockies. Snow play is not over yet. Flats set to Reno turnoff. Classic tracks to Deadmans. The road is passable again. Enjoy.

If you go out there, check the CBAC Avalanche Conditions before you go, and proceed with caution. Be safe!

4/10 – Closed for fat biking!

Mud Season in effect at Hartman Rocks. Mud Season means no motos, bikes or horses on trails and roads until the big thaw arrives and we’ve got dirt. The south aspects are melting extremely fast, but northern aspects are still holding plenty of snow. Hikers and runners can still use the trails, but please head out there early in the morn. when things are still frozen. If you find yourself in some slop, stay on the trail and avoid trampling the sage on the shoulders…less trail maintenance for us later in the year! Here’s hoping Hartmans fully opens by the end of the month/early May.

3/16 – Still buried in fresh snow.

Some of these trails are groomed by CBMBA or Gunnison Trails specifically for fat biking. Some are groomed by other organizations, like CB Nordic or Gunnison Sno-Trackers, but you can still fat bike on them. Others are just user compacted.
