Verzuh Connector Trail

Connecting the Town of CB Rec. Path, at the Slate River Bridge, to McCormack Ranch Rd. (to Tony’s).

Western Colorado University and the McCormick Ranch are excited to reopen the Verzuh Spur Trail along the Slate River.  We welcome the community to use the trail and enjoy this sacred land.  The land is home to over 90 species of birds, and counting, because of the functional riparian and wetland habitats they use.  We hope you will enjoy the trail, the wildlife, the scenery and ask that you:

Stay on the trail

Please do not access the Slate River from the trail

Please no dogs

Please do not litter and practice all leave no trace etiquette

Western Colorado University and partners including the Upper Gunnison River Water Conservancy District and Wynn and Ryan Martens invested a lot of time, resources, and funding to restore the Slate River bank just below Rec Path Bridge.  We hope this badly eroded site will now recover and become optimal streambank habitat that holds the soil and breeding birds.  It needs time and rest, and we ask everyone to stay off this bank, especially as the river level drops and it is easy to cross the river from the access point.

We see our stewardship of the Verzuh Ranch and McCormick Ranch as a privilege and responsibility and we hope you see your access to this land the same.  If you see misuse please help educate users on respectful trail use.  We are all river and land guardians!
