Description

Slate River Road is a well-used corridor for backcountry skiing access, and sees regular use via snowshoers, skiers, snowmobiles, dogs, walkers, etc. The trailhead is almost 3 miles up the road. It’s a fun out and back into some beautiful country with a gentle upward grade to Pittsburg, then turns up towards Paradise. It’s 4 miles to Pittsburg, so 8 miles round trip.  Riding past Pittsburg is not recommended as the grade gets pretty steep and the exposure to avalanche terrain increases.

Use the TrailForks winter layer for a complete map of Crested Buttes fat bike trails.

This route enters avalanche terrain so please take the necessary equipment and precautions!
