Washington Gulch sees regular recreational use from snowmobiles, skiers, snowshoers, walkers, dogs, etc. The trailhead is 2.5 miles up the road. The road begins with a fun ‘rolling up’ grade for about 1.6 miles and then the road kicks up a bit and soon gets into the high country, avalanche terrain, and some steep slopes (and less user compaction).
Use the TrailForks winter layer for a complete map of Crested Buttes fat bike trails.
This road does go into avalanche terrain so please take the necessary equipment and precautions.
